Teams for this weekend will be posted tomorrow evening.<br /><br />Training this week will focus for the ladies on developing the core skills and attacking the goal, encouragin players to shoot from the top of the D. The men will again work on developing the core skills and then onto small sided games encouraging the attack on the D as a team whilst keeping possession of the ball.<br /><br />Please remember plenty of fluids and please warm up before your allocated training time. Winning their league convincingly players aged from 14 to 10 worked brilliantly, playing the ball around the back, rolling out - posting up, scoring from all areas of the D, what a pleasure to coach, umpire and spectate. They went on to win boththe semi and the final in fine style! A credit to themselves and to our club. The team played some impressive hockey in their new posiitons which they had been given by their new manager. Even some of the players having a go at wearing the stinky goalie kit! Dazzer you could be fighting for your position next year! Also many had a go at the top end, they were desperate to score and well, I'll leave what happened next to your own imagination!!!!!<br /><br />Party night was in an eighties theme and Windemere did not let their side down wearing great outfits and dancing the night away! The ladies are looking good in the Central Lancashire League, the Mens 1st battling in 3rd position in the Kukhri Division 5 North, Mens 2nds consistently proving themselves in the Sunday Association and the NWL Ladies producing some fine performances in the development league. <br /><br />We had some successful social events before the Christmas break. WHC held 2 fancy dress discos for our Junior members raising around £350 for the hockey club. Thankyou to all members who volunteered at these events the Juniors had a ball! <br />We also held a fancy dress "What do you wanna be when you grow up?" disco for our adult members. There were some great costumes and fun games which even kept the fat santa happy! Windermere's formidable backline settled the pace of the game quickly and allowed the midfield and forwards to drive on and put constant pressure on the Formby defenders. The first goal came from a well driven pass from the Quillies father to son. Keeno went on to jinx his way through to the D and smash a reverse hit which was deflected into goal by Windermere's Ben Heywood. Formby kept pushing at Windermere's defence only to find Dazzer Darlin, who's performance was outstanding on the day. Dazzer convincingly pulled off some of the best saves in the league so far. After a positive half time talk Windermere came out all guns blazing. Constant pressure from Windermere's midfield found Ben Heywood again who happily slotted in his 2nd goal of the game. Windermere's 3rd goal came from a short corner. Kendo confidently injected the ball to Mike Hodgson who went on to beat two players and then smash the ball into the back of the net. A special mention must go to hardworking Jordan Field, who shined in defence when he replaced injured Dennis Jackson. Both squads had players with ages ranging from year 4 to year 7 and demonstrated again what a credit they are to our ever growing junior section.<br />The boys played 4 games loosing 1 drawing 1 and winning 2. Their technical game improved throughout the morning with some supper efforts in the goal area. Charlie Mullhall proved to be magnificent in defence, Dominic Quill better be working hard at keeping his position in the 1st's!<br />A big thankyou to the young Windermere Juniors and Tom Pearson who all offered to take their turn in goal. All proved a force to be reckoned with. <br />Led by Shona, the girls continued the mornings success with confident passing, skillful dribbling and superb teamwork. Only goals were a miss but dont worry girls, we will work on this! Shona reported back that she was so impressed with their ability and confidence to pass back if there was no other options available! Starting well, Windermere created some superb forward runs, with India Clark jinxing her way down the left wing and linking well with Hannah Clark. Sadly, an early injury from 1st team captain Phillipa Jones left the squad with only 10 players. <br />However, Windermere continued to work hard defensively with new goalie Tracey Clark making some brave saves. Whilst defenders India wood and Abbey Clark demonstrated brilliantly timed tackles which in turn secured the first half 0-0. <br />After the break Windermere came back strong, youngster India Clark showed great skill and went on to find Vicky Bowe who well positioned on the back post. vicky went on to smash the ball into the back of the net and secure Windermere their first goal. Amber Kershaw, Lauren Chapman and Vicky Bowe continued to work well in the middle eventually linking the ball through to Clarky who slammed the ball into the corner of the goal. <br />In return, an experienced Keswick came back strong with 3 quick goals leaving them 3-2 up. The whole Windermere team worked hard to get another goal but were unsuccessful. Countless penalty corners brought an end to the game with Keswick scoring a lucky goal on the last minute, leaving the score 4-2. The scoreline did not reflect the game and the NWL squad continue to improve. Windermere quickly regained there composure with a further 3 goals from Howarth and a goal from NWL Captain Jess Makkers, thus leaving the home side up at half time. They settled quickly and were soon putting the opposition under pressure. Great hits out of defence from Liz Gabbot were controlled well by Alison Spibey and sent through for Katie Sanders to have numerous chances at goal. However Brookfield defended extremely well and it was not until the end of the first half that Windermere managed to break them down. Jane Jackson took a quick self pass 5 metres from the edge of the D and ran it into the circle where an excellently positioned Laura Howarth shot and scored her first goal. <br /><br />The second half saw a more even game as the visitors began to tire. The home side were very dangerous on the break but defender Helen Parsons consistently broke down their attack and Amber Kershaw made some dynamic saves in goal deflecting shots onto the post. Windermere continued to battle hard and were rewarded with their final goal when Phillippa Jones slipped a perfect pass across the D to Laura Howarth who slotted it between the keeper and the post to score her second. Brookfield retaliated quickly and linked a series of incisive passes together finishing with a well struck shot into the back of the net. Windermere continued to attack but had to settle for a 2-1 win.<br /><br />Windermere then went onto face 4th placed Chorley and Leyland on Saturday and despite mounting pressure shared the honours.<br /><br />The first half saw both sides build attacks but fantastic keeping by Windermere’s Amber Kershaw and great defending from Helen Parsons prevented them from scoring. Both Heather Clough and Jess McAvoy continually put pressure down the right hand side but the oppositions defence were well drilled and it remained 0-0 at half time.<br /><br />Windermere had the majority of the possession in the second half. Laura Howarth, Alison Spiby and Fiona Inglis worked tirelessly to create opportunities to score but despite numerous penalty corners, Chorely and Leylands excellent defence proved to be impregnable. It was a game thoroughly enjoyed by both teams with the final score staying 0-0.<br /><br />Windermere began their latest match against Fulwood in a dynamic fashion with a goal coming in the first 5 minutes from a superb solo effort . Karen Tyson dribbled past 4 Fulwood players before deftly slotting the ball into the back of the net. The second came shortly afterwards when Karen Tyson placed an incisive pass through to Fiona Inglis who clinically converted to score. Fulwood also created chances and were dangerous on the break but excellent keeping again from new recruit Amber Kershaw denied them in the first half. Windermere scored their final goal towards the end of the first half . Fiona Inglis displayed some nifty footwork to slip the ball passed the keeper before ending up on the floor tangled with the keeper to make it 3-0.<br /><br />Fulwood put a lot more pressure on in the second half and won many penalty corners but their only goal came from open play . Windermere’s defence worked tirelessly to deny them any more with Philippa Jones and Helen Parsons making timely clearances to produce the final score of 3-1. First home match against Brooklands 5's saw a 5 1 convincing win with goals from new squad members Ste Masterson (3), Ben Heywood (1) and vice captain Scott Santemara (1). The team have introduced youngsters Dennis Jackson and Marcus Bell to the back line, both have settled in well and have proved to be strong additions to the ever growing 1st team squad. <br />The Derby, Windermere v Kendal saw the 'Mere' control the play from the start. Windemere kept possesion well but after several short corners and a few missed goal scoring chances they allowed Kendal to break, this led to Ewan Galloway scoring the opening goal. In reply however Windermere scored five minutes before half time whistle. <br />The second half saw Windermere dominate the play once again. The Tournament was held by Halifax Hockey Club and proved to be the best competition held so far, well organised, good food, great hockey, superb camping facilities (especially for the Windermerians) and fantastic entertainment!</div><br /><div>The boys played matches on both Sat and Sun, even though they did loose a player to the dreaded sunstroke, they came a very respectable 7th out of 24 teams especially when considering their games throughout the evening were both extremely physical and mentally challenging. Only a few trials left before final selection for the Regional Finals! They both took part in a tournament with some of the best squads in the country. The team did well throughout the day and got a good place in the final results. Our club has offered the juniors quality hockey training since September 08 and are still getting at least 20 children down regularly.
